Little Janet desperately wants to nurse from her mother, Jane. Again and again, Janet comes back and tries to feed, refusing to give up. Jane appears frustrated and eventually bites Janet to stop her from nursing.
Although the moment looks heartbreaking, a mother monkey may use a bite or other physical warning to set boundaries, especially when she is trying to reduce or stop nursing. Janet’s repeated attempts show how strongly she still depends on her mother’s milk and comfort.
It is an emotional struggle between a hungry baby who doesn’t want to stop and a mother trying to enforce her limits.
