Baby macaques normally learn important social skills by watching and interacting with adults and other young monkeys. They gradually learn how to:
- Recognize dominance and social boundaries
- Respond to threats or aggression
- Communicate through facial expressions, sounds, and body language
- Avoid conflict and seek protection from others
- Build relationships and understand their place within the group
