Baby macaques learn important social skills by interacting with adults and other members of their group. They gradually learn how to:
- 🐒 Recognize social signals — facial expressions, vocalizations, gestures, and body posture.
- 🤝 Respond to aggression — deciding when to retreat, submit, stay still, or seek protection.
- 👶 Understand hierarchy — young macaques learn that older or dominant animals may have higher social status.
- ❤️ Build relationships — interactions with mothers, siblings, and other group members help develop trust and cooperation.
- 🧠 Learn through experience — difficult encounters can teach a youngster how to behave safely around different individuals.
